Olive first became a clown minister in the mid-1980s, as a result of her discovery of God's love at a time of great personal tragedy in her own life - hence her clown name, Valentine, "God's Love in Action". Since then she has developed her calling in a unique way, empowering today's people to find spiritual direction, particularly in the context of authentic worship.

Valentine's unique style of clown ministry begins from human weakness and vulnerability, taking Jesus Christ as her model. As well as leading regular worship in churches of many different denominations, Valentine also ministers at healing services, and at other special parish-based events.

She also offers workshops and training in worship, faith-sharing, and personal spirituality, as well as in other creative arts such as movement and dance, mask-making, encaustic, and work with colours - and regularly combines all these things in weekend retreats and workshops for local groups and on a wider basis.

She tells her story in Clowns Storytellers Disciples (BRF 2002), documenting the birth of Valentine and also her hobo clown, Barni, who finds hope among others rubbish.
